Tazorac
Tazorac
Tazorac is a topical treatment which comes in gel or cream form and targets blackheads and whiteheads. Tazorac gets its name from the ingredient Tazarotene and contains Vitamin A chemical compounds (also known as retinoids).
Retinoids are popular ingredients in blackhead and whitehead treatments because they cause the skin to shed old skin cells at a faster rate, thus unclogging pores and opening up the congested follicles which cause blackheads and whiteheads. Concentrations of Tazorac are between 0.05% and 0.1%, depending on the type of acne.
While retinoids are known to be effective in clearing up whiteheads and blackheads, they can also cause a number of side-effects ranging from dryness to itchiness to redness of skin. Moreover, retinoids can actually cause other types of acne to increase. This makes Tazorac counterproductive for people who suffer from different types of acne besides blackheads and whiteheads.
In short, Tazorac may be an effective treatment for blackheads and whiteheads, but its side-effects and negative impact on other types of acne definitely reduce its value in our estimation.
